Description
A body shot of big costume this past weekend at Katsucon: Alexander Vronsky from Takarazuka's Anna Karenina.
Anna Karenina is one of my all-time favorite classics, and seeing the Takarazuka Revue's take on it was both inspiring and dazzling. I simply fell in love with Asami Hikaru's rendition of Vronsky's charm and pride, and it didn't hurt that the costume is just beyond gorgeous on stage.
I took most reference from the 2001 Snow troupe, but since they appeared to reuse most of the outfits in the 2008 Star troupe, I took inspiration from their show too to construct it. I'm not sure why I look quite so robust in this photo, because I'm not, I think it's just the tug of the coat.
I didn't think I could portray an otokoyaku well, much less Asami Hikaru, but I think it all came together. My rhinestone eyelashes brought all the girls to the yard.
I literally had about 2 weeks to make this since returning from Europe, but am very happy with how it looked overall. The coat was made from the softest 80% wool suiting purchased in Copenhagen, with over 5 types of trims embellished with sequins and Swarovski rhinestones. The pants were preowned that I embellished, and the gorgeous wig was a lace-front borrowed from Klytaemnestra.

Great pose, it's very Takarazuka-esque.
